This is what Mr. Asep did with the company he founded. This innovation is considered capable of replacing the production of wood-based briquettes, thereby greatly contributing to saving Indonesia’s forest ecosystem. Mr. Asep explained that demand for exports of coconut shell charcoal briquettes from abroad is quite high. This is because briquettes are widely used for barbecues and shisha cigarettes. Especially for shisha cigarettes, the use of briquettes made from coconut shells is considered to have better quality than briquettes made from other materials. “The demand is very high because consumption of barbecue and shisha in the world is quite high, demand is more than 350 thousand tons per year,”.
Apart from having high demand, the coconut shell briquette business is also not affected by the economic crisis. Currently, sales of 100 percent of coconut shell briquettes are carried out by export using foreign currency exchange rates. This allows the briquette business to run sustainably with very abundant availability of raw materials.
Coco fiber and Cocopeat also dominates the world market
Not only coconut shells, Mr. Asep also explained, coconut fiber waste also has the potential to be made into renewable materials such as ropes, planting media, sacks and so on. However, its development requires appropriate technology so that it can be produced sustainably.

“The potential of coconut-derived waste in Indonesia must be utilized properly to improve Indonesia’s good name in the eyes of the world, one of which is Indonesian coconut, whose abundant waste has not been utilized optimally, such as the shell and husk,” explained Mr. Asep.
Head of Unpad Agricultural Industrial Technology Study Program, Dr. Efri Mardawati said that her party had collaborated with PT. TOM Cococha Indonesia to carry out Field Work Practice activities, research, and become a forum for implementing the Independent Campus program.
